Wireless sensor for selective gas detection, mainly composed of a gas-sensitive layer, an antenna and a receiver.
This new sensor technology first relies on a synthetised nanocomposite sensitive layer. This layer is specifically engineered so that its electromagnetic permittivity varies when gas molecules of interest are near. The sensor also uses a patch antenna below the sensitive layer. The radiating parameters of the antenna change in a passive way when the permittivity of the sensitive layer varies. As a result, the wireless signal from the sensor changes upon detection of the compound of interest. Finally, a receiver measures the wireless signal change and is able to either display/record/alert based on the measured value.
This technology uses the joint expertise in chemistry, materials engineering and antenna design of the Université de Rennes 1.
It features:
- Small size
- Accurate detection
- Selectivity
- Low energy consumption
- Low cost
- Wireless capability (versatility, compatibility with hazardous environments)
